Week 8 Preview, Part I: Head Cold Edition

I'm feeling the beginnings of a damned cold coming on, so this will be short and sweet as I prepare to dope myself up and hit the hay...

FLORIDA STATE (4-1) at N.C. STATE (2-4)
Thursday, 10/16/08, 7:30pm ET - Carter Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC
Series Record: Florida State leads 19-9; the Seminoles won last year's meeting 27-10
My Guess: The Pack give the Noles all they can handle, but the FSU defense is the difference-maker tonight. Florida State 24, N.C. State 20

If I'm not a hopeless case tomorrow, the remaining previews will be up in the late afternoon. Good night.

No FSU team of the last four years would have won that game last night. You've got to give Jimbo and Mickey a ton of credit - Jimbo's rebuilt the offense and they've been incredible converting 3rd downs; conversely Mickey has adjusted his 3rd-down strategy from the past few years and we're currently leading the nation in shutting down opponents on 3rd down. It won't rocket us up in the polls or anything, but that was a really nice win for the Noles.

Now the real season begins...

Agree 100%. Very impressive how the Noles drove down the field in the 4th to take the lead.

And I'm so glad someone else has noticed the 3rd down play on both sides of the ball, especially defense. For decades we seemed to lead the nation in giving up a first down on 3rd and long. No more, I hope.
